5. A tasting menu at Atomix
Korean tasting menu, very small room, the chef is in the room with you. Reservations a month or more out.
6. The Loring Place chef's counter
Eight seats facing the open kitchen. Pricier than the dining room but the experience is the point.
7. A reservation at One If By Land, Two If By Sea (West Village)
Historically the proposal restaurant of NYC. Period decor, low light, the kind of place that takes itself seriously.
8. A private dining room at a less-famous restaurant
Many mid-size NYC restaurants have private rooms that book for $500-1000 with food minimum.
The classic date nights
9. A Broadway show + a late dinner
Pick the show first, then dinner near the theater. Sardi's after a show is the move if you want the cliché done right.
10. Live jazz at the Village Vanguard
The most consequential jazz club in the world. Three sets a night. Reservations required.

Free, 25 minutes each way. The Statue of Liberty going by twice. The Manhattan skyline glowing on the way back. Romantic in a non-obvious way.
15. A weekend at a hotel you'd never normally stay at
